The seeds for the Ottawa Easy Riders cycling group were sown when Bob and Anne Hawley (who had previously cycled with the Carravelo group in Montreal) and Geoff and Eileen Wilson met on a barge-and-bike trip in Holland, in September 2005. They began riding together from time to time in 2006, with the hope of attracting other recreational cyclists to form a club similar to the Carravelo.

Suzanne and John Patten, and Heather and Don Blair were early recruits, and others joined to the point where, in 2011, the group attained a critical mass with some 18 members. In 2012, the members formalized the name, purchased Easy Riders shirts, set up a website and kept a weekly excursion log. Membership in the spring of 2013 reached 28, and continues to grow.
